First Cruise Ship to Begin Sailing the Caribbean after COVID-19

SeaDream Yacht Club has confirmed that it will restart cruises from November 19 starting with a 17-day transatlantic sailing from the UK to Barbados. The yacht line will be the first to return to the Caribbean with round-trip sailings from Barbados.

Sailings are currently only scheduled on SeaDream I, which carries around 100 passengers, and both is coming off successful summer seasons in Norway. SeaDream was the first luxury line to return to cruising after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sailing worldwide in mid-March.

It’s great news, especially for UK cruisers who want to get away and cruise this year or next year!

New Health Protocols

SeaDream announced enhanced health and safety protocols that it developed during it’s summer season in Norway. Guests will be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test taken at home 72 hours prior to arriving in Barbados. A second test will be carried out at the port using an Abbott ID Now rapid testing machine that gives COVID-19 results in 15 minutes.

Other measures in place include staggered boarding times, temperature checks using thermal scanners that record temperatures, the use of Ultraviolet lights for daily cabin sanitation, and the use of a hospital-grade Altapure AP-4 disinfectant fogger that the crew will use to clean the ship before people board.

“We do not want people to wear masks onboard, that’s why we want people to be tested prior to embarkation.” He continued; “We will have masks for everyone onboard, If our guests feel like wearing masks is the right thing to do, we are more than happy to listen.

Flexible & Protected Bookings

For an added piece of mind the cruise line also announced a “Ultimate Booking Assurance” which allows guests to book without being concerned about travel restrictions and even cancel you cruise upto the day of departure and move it to a future date.

An Added Benefit for UK citizens

At the time of writing, UK citizens returning from Barbados do not have to quarantine and can freely disembark in all the planned ports of call. All ports have been carefully selected as safe places to call and there are loads of bargain flights available from airlines such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
